Leroy Goodbody Tells How Fund Will Aid Taxpayer At th e request of the University j Foundation Mr. LeRoy E. Good- body of the Franklin Insurance I Corporation has made a detailed study of the present cost of ed- 1 ucation in San Diego. "Currently, in the San Diego ~chool system," Mr. Goodbody said, I~ ;,s costing the tax-payers $1.,4.. 19 for each pupil in the jun- 1 wr grades (first to sixth inclu- sive) and $165.67 per annum for/ each child in the schools .from the seventh to the twelfth "Tades. I ''O b n top of this operating ex- pense," he stated, "It must be born~ in mind that it costs ap- proxunately $500 per pupil for the establishing of one school desk and this figure is exclusive of the I cost of the land upon which t h buildings are erected. e " Each time, therefore, a privat e school is built even if it only takes care ~f 100 pupils, the tax-payers I of this area are saved a capital I out!ay of not less than $50,000, besides an annual saving per 100 I pupils of $115,000." · In relating these figures t o the present University Foundation 1 campaign, Mr. Goodbody said that a st udy of the above statistics by any tax-paying business man clearly shows why the University Foundation Fund should receive the vigorous support of all.
