For instance, studies have shown that hospitals frequently experience stockouts of essential medical supplies, which can result in delays in patient treatment and increased healthcare costs (Ayer et al., 2023). Research emphasizes the importance of integrating advanced technologies, such as IoT and data analytics, to enhance inventory visibility and streamline operations. Theories related to supply chain management, such as Just-In-Time (JIT) and Lean Management, have also been applied to healthcare inventory practices. These theories advocate for minimizing waste and optimizing resource allocation, which are crucial for improving inventory efficiency (Rathi et al., 2022). Industry practices have begun to evolve, with some healthcare organizations adopting automated inventory systems that utilize barcode scanning and RFID technology to track supplies more accurately (Sundaresan et al., 2015). However, despite these advancements, many healthcare facilities still rely on outdated methods, leading to persistent inefficiencies. Despite progress in inventory management, significant knowledge gaps remain, particularly concerning the effectiveness of integrated smart inventory systems tailored for healthcare. While the benefits of technology are discussed, limited empirical evidence exists on its impact on patient outcomes and operational efficiency across diverse healthcare settings. Additionally, barriers such as technological, organizational, and financial challenges are underexplored, and the influence of leadership and organizational culture on successful implementation is often overlooked. Addressing these gaps, the Smart Inventory Management System project aims to offer valuable insights to improve inventory solutions in healthcare, ultimately enhancing patient care and operational performance.
