ERIKJOHNSON Associate Head Coach
Erik Johnson is now in his sixth season on San Diego's staff, bringing proven experience as a recruiter, motivator and enthusiastic teacher of the game. With his promotion to Associate Head Coach, Erik now plays an integal part in fundraising and establishing our booster club, the Torero Bench. Johnson also coordinates the defense and plays a major role in practice planning, scouting, and recruiting.
In Johnson's second season at USD, he helped the Toreros win the West Coast Conference Tournament title and earn a birth into the 2000 NCAA Tournament.
Before joining the Torero staff, Johnson spent four seasons at the University of Rhode Island-the last two as a first assistant under Head Coach Linda Ziemke . In addition to managing the bulk of the recruiting duties for the Rams , Johnson 's primary coaching responsibilities at URI included developing post players, shooting, defense and scouting. A native of San Jose, CA, Johnson was a four-year letter-winner at UC San Diego, leading the Tritons to three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances including a Sweet-16. He served as captain and was the team's leading scorer as a senior completing his career as the all-time career and single-season three-point record holder.

Johnson holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UC San Diego
0994) and completed his Master's Degree in Adult Education at the University of Rhode Island 0997) . Johnson and wife Laura, who was a member of the USA National Volleyball team for five years, currently reside in Mira Mesa. The couple gave birth to their first child, Daly, in May of 2002.
