-----• University Profile ------ The University of San Diego is an independent Catholic university located on a 170-acre mesa overlooking Mission Bay, San Diego Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. The campus is named Alcala Park after the Spanish university town where St. Didacus (i.e., Diego) spent much of his time. Complementing its splendid natural setting is the University•s location - just ten minutes from downtown San Diego and conve– niently close to the major business, cultural, residential and recre– ational areas, as well as the rail, bus and air terminals. Founded in 1949, USO is presently experiencing record attendance. Undergraduate admission stands at 3,900 with graduate students bringing the overall campus enrollment to over 6,000 students. The University includes a College of Arts anti Sciences as well as Schools of Business Administration, Education, Nursing and Law. Each is characterized by high academic standards, small classes and excellent student-faculty relations. Though the majority of students come from the West Coast, every region of the United States is well-represented on campus. Students from 24 foreign countries also can be found in attendance at USO. In January of 1987, USO opened the doors to its new University Center, a 74,500 square foot building for students, fac ulty and staff. The two level Ernest and Jean Hahn Center is the largest building on campus. It is the eighth major project completed at USO in the past ten years. It' s aplace for people to meet forleisure and fun as well as extracurricular activities. Recreation, intramural and athletic activities are expanding rapidly. Among the many recreation and and intramural activities offered, some of the favorites include Mission Bay Aquatic Center activities (water skiing, surfing, sailing, crew), modem dance, aerobics, bowling, karate, back-packing, softball, tennis, floor hockey and volleyball. USO intercollegiate sports for men include baseball, bas– ketball, crew, cross country, football, golf, soccer and tennis. In women's intercollegiate sports, USO fields teams in basketball, crew, cross country, soccer, softball, swirnrning, tennis and volleyball. Scholarship Information The University of San Diego women's softball program does not presently offer scholarships based on athletic ability. However, financial aid is available to any incoming student, and many of our athletes at the University are currently on financial aid. For more information, please contact the USO Financial Aid Office or Head Coach Larry Caudillo. Policy Of Non-Discrimination - The University of San Diego does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, religious belief, age, national origin, ancestry, or handicap in adimission to the University, in financial aid programs, in educational programs and policies, and in athletic and other University-administered programs.
