USD Law Advocate, Spring 2026
A GOLDEN LEGACY USD School of Law Class of 1975 marks 50 years ❱❱ The University of San Diego and the law school cel ebrated the remarkable Class of 1975’s 50-year Reunion in October 2025. This class holds a unique and distinguished place in the law school’s history, setting an unparalleled standard for unity, camaraderie and philanthropic dedi cation. Members of the class will be the first to admit that their 50-year history of meaningful connections and interest did not happen by accident. They put in time and energy to stay in touch and join together for common causes, while also reaching out to support one another personally and professionally for more than five decades. In honor of their 25th anniversary (2000), classmates established an endowed professorship. This year, Professor Donald Dripps proudly carries the distinction as the 2025 Class of 1975 Professorship. Ten years later, in 2010, with the growing need for student scholarship support, the Class created an endowed scholarship. Since its inception, this scholarship fund has been awarded to 14 law students. Undaunted by COVID-19 in 2020, the focus turned to securing experiential opportunities through public service fellowships and the Class of 1975, again answered the call.
The Class of 1975 is the only class in the school’s history to establish a dedicated professorship, scholarship and fel lowship. This “triple crown” is an enduring commitment to supporting students, attracting accomplished faculty, and fostering specialized research and practice areas, the three foundational pillars of excellence in legal education. As they approached their golden anniversary, the Class of 1975 focused their reunion fundraising efforts on another critical area: the enhancement of law school facilities. Steve Hunsicker spoke passionately about the need to enhance facilities, keep pace with law school competitors, elevate the law school environment to reflect best practices in instructional pedagogy and contribute to the prestige of the institution. Recognizing that modern learning spaces are essential to preparing the next genera tion of legal professionals, the Class of 1975’s collective efforts aim to improve the physical spaces where students learn, collaborate and prepare for their careers. Their half-century milestone is more than a social event; it is a powerful testament to the impact a single class can have on an institution. The Class of 1975 has truly engraved its legacy into the very fabric of USD School of Law, ensuring that their generosity benefits the students and faculty of today and for decades to come. We are forever grateful.
