FACULTY HONORS AND PROFESSORSHIPS In 2025, five USD Law professors were selected to receive prestigious honors, professorships and prizes. ❱❱ Warren Distinguished Professorship in recognition of his meritorious teaching, leadership and academic accomplishments. ❱❱ Herzog Research Professor of Law Dov Fox received the Thorsnes Prize for Outstanding Legal Scholarship, which recognizes significant scholarly work. ❱❱ Professor of Law Kimberly Gosling received the Thorsnes Prize for Excellence in Teaching, which is voted on annually by upper-division students and recognizes a professor’s extraordinary effectiveness in assisting students, both inside and outside the classroom. ❱❱ Professor of Law Michelle Layser was named a Herzog Endowed Scholar in recognition of her meritorious teaching and Professor of Law Donald Dripps was awarded the Class of 1975 Endowed

REBECCA TALBOTT EXAMINES CONSTITUTIONAL LIMITS ON INTERROGATION AND COMPELLED SELF-INCRIMINATION ❱❱ Assistant Professor of Law Rebecca Talbott is a criminal procedure and evidence scholar studying the constitutional constraints governing police interroga tion and compelled self-incrimination. Previously, she was a fellow at Stanford Law School’s Constitutional Law Center and served as an assistant federal public defender in Baltimore, Maryland. Talbott remarked, “Joining the USD faculty has been a dream come true. It is a privilege to join such an elite community of thoughtful and impactful legal scholars.” She has a forthcoming article, ”Implied Promises in Police Interrogation,“ in the UC Davis Law Review , which has been selected by the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) as the 2026 winner of the Junior Scholars Paper Competition Award for the Section on Criminal Procedure. Talbott’s scholarship appears in the NYU Law Review , the UC Davis Law Review and Washington State Bar News . Talbott earned a JD, magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, from NYU School of Law, where she was a Root-Tilden-Kern Scholar, a Furman Scholar and an executive editor of the NYU Law Review .
