The West Coast Conference The baseball portion of the WCC started with five charter members and three associ– ates as LMU, Pepperd ine,Saint Mary's,San Francisco and Santa Clara were joined by UC Sa nta Barbara, Pacific and Sa n Jose State.The conference temporari ly spl it from 1977-84 into the Northern and Southern Cal ifornia Baseball Associations (so divisional play isn't completly foreign to t he league), but rea ligned in 1985 to include Sa n Diego and Nevada in a seven-team league. In 1991,the Wolf Pack departed and a six-team loop existed unti l Portland and Gonzaga, full members in all other sports, left the Pac- 10 North league to bring the wee to its ful l-bodied eight-team set in 1996. This is t he eight h year of the current eight-team WCC baseball alig nment but t he con– ference has determined a champion in the sport annually since 1968. During t hat time, teams in t heWCC have advanced to four College World Series, includi ng a nationa l t it le in 1992 (Pepperdine). Five current members -- San Diego, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, San Francisco and Santa Clara -- have represented t he WCC in NCAA tournament play. These five have an all-time record of 77-86 in the championships. Port land and Gonzaga are the on ly other - current members with NCAA tourney experience, most recently Portland had made it in 1991 as t he Pacific-10 North representative. TheWest Coast Conference changed its league baseball format and sched ule beginning in 2006. A one-division format wil l once again be implemented and the eight institu– tions will compete in a 21-game conference season. This format is a departure from a two-division format, West and Coast, with a 30-game conference schedule t hat has been used in t he WCC since t he beg ining of the 1999 season . Under t he one-division, 21-game format, each school w ill play the other seven opponents one time over t he course of an eight-week conference season. Each team wi ll play seven th ree-game series, with one week serving as the bye week.The top two finish ing teams wil l play in the WCC Championship Series with t he regular-season champ serving as series' host.
