FRED SCHENK ’78 (JD): GENERATIONS OF GENEROSITY

Growing up as the son of immigrant parents, Fred Schenk ’78 (JD) was taught the importance of compassion, gratitude, kindness, and community service, which have significantly shaped his character. His father, a Holocaust survivor, along with his mother, instilled in him a great sense of compassion and a caring attitude towards others, as well as humility and a commitment to hard work. As a law alumnus, Schenk is the embodiment of USD’s mission and values, particularly his dedication to academic excellence, ethical conduct, community

engagement, and empathetic service to others. Leading a charitable life with the ethos of giving back as their motto, he and his wife Shari raised their children with the same strong sense of community involvement they admired in their own parents. With a strong multi-generational bond with USD, including his sister, Congresswoman Lynn Schenk ’70 (JD); brother-in-law, Professor of Law, C. Hugh Friedman; son, Benjamin ’20 (JD); and daughters, Michaela ’23 (MEd) and Sydney ’27 (expected JD), Schenk and Shari have made
