Anchoring down the defense for the Toreros w ill be the return on second-team AII-WCC honoree, senior . oalkeeper Brittany Cameron. Cameron had the best season of her ca– reer in 2007, as she posted a minuscule 0.71 goals-against-av– erage and had a career-high nine shutouts en route to help– ing guide USD to 11 consecutive unbeaten matches. Backing-up Cameron in goal are two new faces to the To– reros in freshmen Courtney Parsons and Alex Dinan. Parsons comes to USD after a stand-out career at Ursu– line High School, where she was named first-team All-Empire league as a senior, was a three-time scholar athlete, helped lead her team to a North Coast Section Championship as a sophomore and a junior and in 2006 she helped lead Ursuline to a No. 1 National Ranking. She has also won several state titles for her Santa Rosa club team. Parsons was also a top Soccerbuzz recruit. Dinan comes to USD from Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa, Calif., where she helped lead her team to four con-~ secutive North Coast Section semifinals, was named second- team All-North Bay League, was a four-time Academic Honor Athlete and a four-time California Scholarship Federation ~ The rest of the backfield is again a deep position for the Toreros. USD will look to Jackie Garcia, Addie Cartan, Erika Wesley, Heather Burke, Kirk, Vinti, Bavasi, Dani Russell, and Cartan is retuning to the Toreros after a strong freshman campaign. Cartan played in 19 of USD's 21 matches a year ago and had 10 starts, while helping the team post a 0.69 GAA. Wesley found her way into the starting line-up about mid way through the season in 2007 and was a mainstay ever since. Last year, she helped lead USD's defense to a 0.69 GAA, while also adding in two assists for two points. Burke makes a return for her sophomore campaign after appearing in eight matches as a defender in 2007. Russell, a 5-9 freshman from Long Beach, Calif., comes to USD after a stand-out career at Wilson High School. She helped lead her team for four consecutive Moore League championships. As a senior she helped lead her team to the NSCAA/ Rivals.com National Championship, and a CIF-SS Championship, while tallying 11 goals and 11 assists. She was also a member of the Region IV team. Russell was also a top Soccerbuzz recruit. Another new face to the Toreros will be University of Colorado transfer Brooke Hickerson. Hickerson took a medi– cal redshirt this past season for the Buffalo's and is fully healed and ready to play. She prepped at Mulling High School where she helped lead her team to the 2007 SA State Championship her senior year after taking the Centennial League her junior season and losing in the state championship game in 2006. This past summer, Hickerson helped Colorado Rush w in the club national championship. "I just feel like if we work right together, have a good team attitude and show strong character as a team they can do something special thi s season," said Greenwood. 2008 wee Preseason Coaches Poll 1. team and played in the Olympic qualifier this past summer. Last season, Vinti was one of three Toreros to play and start in all 21 matches, and she recorded three assists for three points. Roberts makes her return for her second season in a To– rero uniform after making two appearances in 2007 as a mid– fielder. Fi sher comes to the Toreros after playing last season at Arizona State University,where she appeared in one match for the Sun Devils. Zinke, comes to the Toreros from the University of Ari– zona, where she earned an All-PAC 1 O freshman team honor after playing in 20 matches with 16 starts and had two assists for two points. Zinke has won numerous state, region al and national championships w ith the Slammers soccer club and played in the national title game this past summer. Bavasi redshirted this past season with an injury, but has returned to full strength. She is a product of Mission Viejo High School and she helped led her team to the quarterfinals of the CIF playoffs as a senior en route to being selected as a first-team All-League honoree. She was also a member of the 2005 ODP team. Gordon will return for her second season in a Torero uni– form after making three appearances this past season in the midfield for the Toreros. Maruca will be back after taking a medical redshirt this past season. She prepped at Horizon High School, where as a freshman, she was named first-team AII-CIF, first-team All– Coastal League South and helped lead her team to the league championship. Magracia comes to USD from nearby Bonita Vista High School. She was a stand-out on the soccer team as she helped lead her team to back-to-back Mesa League Championships as a junior and senior, was named AII-CIF San Diego Section as a junior and senior and was named Mesa League Player of the Year as a junior and senior and during her senior season she was also named the Union Tribune Female Athlete of the Year. She played club soccer for the Surf and won numerous state and regional championships. Detrick will return to the Toreros after taking a redshirt season in 2007. Detrick is a three-year letter winner at Mater Dei High School. As a junior she tallied eight goals and three assists, was named second-team All-Trinity League and helped lead her team to the league championship. Roukoz, a 5-5 freshman from Arcadia, Calif., comes to the Toreros after a stand-out career at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. She helped lead her team to three CIF Division I playoff appearances and as a senior she was named named to the 2008 Pasadena Star News All-Area Team, the Glendale News All-Area Team and to the All-Mission Team. She played her club soccer for the Slammers FC. Natalie Garcia comes to the Toreros from near-by Valley Center after an outstanding high school career at San Pasqual High School. She helped lead her team to three consecutive Valley League Championships and was named the CIF and Valley League Player of the Year after scoring nine goals and 11 assists during her junior year, while also leading her team to the CIF championship. She was also a top recruit accord ing to Soccerbuzz Magazine. She has helped the Surf win two re– gional titles and helped the team reach the nationals in 2005. She was also a member of the Region IV team. Deol cones to San Diego from Ladera Ranch, Calif., where he was a stand-out on the Alisa Niguel High School soccer team. As a senior, she was named first-team AII -CIF and first– team All-South Coast League and she was her team's second leading scorer all four season's. She helped her SC Blues club team w in the national championship in 2005.
