USD Women's Basketball 2006-2007

Mike Matoso, Senior Associate Director ofAthletics Mike Matoso enters his second year in the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director. He will have the responsibility for the day-to-day operation and management of the department including compliance, personnel , programs, facilities and operations. Mike also supervises the baseball , women's volleyball , men's soccer, women's swimming & diving , and softball programs. Matoso had held the title of Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Administration since the Fall of 2003 , and was the department's Compliance Coordinator the past five years. Entering his 8th year at USO, Mike started his Torero career as the department's Academic Support Coordinator. Prior to USO, he spent three years as the Academic Counselor at USC where he worked with the football , baseball, women 's soccer, swimming and volleyball programs. Prior to USC, Mike served as the Academic Advisor for all 18 intercollegiate programs at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for two years. He

earned both his S.S. degree in Physical Education (1993) and M.A. in Education , Counseling (1994) from Cal Poly. He was also a starting pitcher for the Mustangs baseball team that participated in the Division II College World Series . Mike and his wife, Kelly, reside in Carlsbad with their two children , Abigail and Cole. Dan You rg' Associate Director ofAthletics/Business Affairs Yourg oversees football, women's & men's rowing , Strength & Conditioning , and Athletic Equipment Services. In addition, he is the department liaison to USD's Financial Aid, Budget & Treasury, Bursar, Campus Card, Computer Services, Housing, Dining Services and Bookstore. Additionally, Yourg is the Athletic Department contact for NCAA directed annual audits, coordinates the USO Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) report, the NCAA Student Athlete Opportunity Fund and the NCAA Special Assistance Fund for Student-Athletes. Yourg is a national member of CABMA, the College Athletic Busi– ness Management Association. He has volunteered himself in the San Diego community serving as Chairman of The Board of Directors for Wayback, Inc., of San Diego, a recovery home for alcoholic men. Yourg received his Bachelor's (Sociology, 1980) and Master's (Social Work, 1986) degrees from the University of Wisconsin, where he was a nose -"';•·••• guard on the Badgers' football team. He played four years and was a letter winner. Yourg is an inductee of the St. Viator High School (Arlington Heights, Illinois) - ~ ....-- .=i Athletic Hall of Fame. Dan and his wife Virginia, a USO alumnus, are the parents of three sons, John, Thomas and Michael. Shaney Fink, Associate Director ofAthletics/SWA Dan Yourg , Associate Director of Athletics, has been a member of the USO Athletics Department since the fall of 1985. His main duties include overseeing the department's budget and business operations.

Shaney Fink begins her seventh year with USO and her second in the role of Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student Services/Senior Woman Administrator. Prior to last season she was Assistant Director of Athletics for Academics and Student Services, and since her arrival at USO has overseen the Academic Support Program. During the 1999 season she assisted the Torero volleyball coaching staff, helping the Toreros to a 23-6 record and second round finish in the NCAA Tournament. Prior to USO she gained coaching experience at the high school, college and inter– national levels for four years. She capped off a stellar collegiate career (1990-93) at Cal Berkeley and won selection to the All-Pac 10 Decade Team. Fink earned her B.A. in Social Science from Berkeley in 1994. In the spring of 2004 she earned her Masters Degree at USO in Counseling. Shaney and her husband, Tom Vorkoper, reside in Encinitas with their son, Lucas, and newborn daughter, Mia. Brian Fogarty, Associate Director ofAthletics for Development Brian Fogarty enters his eleventh year in USO athletics administration where he is Associate Director of Athletics for Development. He took over this post after spending thirteen years as USD's head football coach. He directed USD's football program to eleven seasons of .500 or better records and guided their move from the Division Ill ranks to the NCAA I-AA level in 1993. In 2003 he was named USD's "Administrator of the Year." His primary responsibilities are with overseeing the department's fund raising efforts and in staffi□g the athletic Executive Cabinet. He co-directed the capital campaign for the Jenny Craig Pavilion, which opened its doors in October of 2000. Brian and his wife Denise, married in the summer of 2004, reside in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego. Brian has four grown children: Bridget, Joe, Colleen, and Megan. Bridget and Colleen are both USO graduates.
