USD Women's Basketball 2004-2005

appeared in all 29 contests and ended her season 2nd in the WCC in both 3 pointers made and 3 point percentage. She supplied USD with consistent shooting from the perimeter, making 42% of her shots from behind the arc. Helvey shot a perfect 18-18 from the free throw line in conference play. She came off the bench to score in double digits ten times, including a career-high 28 points to lead the Toreros to their thrilling 87-81 double overtime victory over St. Mary's in round one of the WCC Tournament. Sophomore guard, Tiara Harris, was a major player for the Toreros, giving them tremendous speed in transition. She was an integral part in USD's first round victory in the WCC Tournament when she scored a career-high 24 points. Harris was 2nd on the team in assists with 64 and averaged 6.9 points per game. Forward Jamie Corwin, who also started in all 29 games, ended the season shooting 41 % from the field. She ranked 2nd on the Toreros in both steals (27) and blocks (11) and averaged 7.0 points per game. Corwin scored in double digits nine times throughout the season, including a career-high 19 points against Pacific and a game-high 15 points against Georgia Southern. Junior guard, Brandi Collato, returned to the Toreros after sitting out the 2002-03 season as a medical redshirt. She proved to be an excellent outside shooter for the Toreros, scoring in double digits seven times throughout the season and reaching a career-high 18 points twice. Brandi ended the season with the 4th highest 3 point shooting percentage in the WCC.

San Diego also had strong contributions from their freshmen who were immediate assets for the Toreros. Ashley Voisinet enjoyed significant playing time averaging 8.9 minutes in 19 games and became the Toreros ' defensive stopper at the guard position. Katie Watson played in 23 games as a forward and shot 40% from the field. Sabine Loewe averaged 10 minutes

per game in 26 games at the center position. She finished a strong rookie season shooting 47% from the field and went 18-24 (.750) from the free throw line. Sabine recorded a career high 11 points against USF. The '03-'04 season saw many young Toreros get major game experience as 10 of the 12 players on the roster were freshmen and sophomores. The experience those young players gained from playing significant minutes in every game and the lessons learned from the senior leaders, Menuez and Padgett, will be a huge factor in the Toreros ' success this year.
