ERIKJOHNSON Associate Head Coach
ErikJohnson is now in his seventh season on San Diego's staff, bringing
proven experience as a recruiter, mo- tivator and enthu–
siastic teacher of the game. With his pro– motion to Associate Head Coach, Erik now plays an integal part in fundraising and establishing the Torero Bench booster club. Johnson coaches the post players and plays a major role in practice planning, scouting, and recruiting. In Johnson's second season at USD, he helped the Toreros win the West Coast Conference Tournament title and earn a berth into the 2000 NCAA Tournament. Before joining the Torero staff, Johnson spent four seasons at the University of Rhode Island-the last two as a first assistant
under Head Coach Linda Ziemke. In addition to managing the bulk of the recruiting duties for the Rams , Johnson's primary coaching responsibilities at URI included devel– oping post players, shooting, defense and scouting. A native of San Jose, CA, Johnson was a four-year letter-winner at UC San Diego, lead– ing the Tritons to three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances including a Sweet- 16. He served as captain and was the team's leading scorer as a senior completing his career as the all-time career and single-season three-point record holder. Johnson holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UC San Diego 0994) and com– pleted his Master's Degree in Adult Education at the University of Rhode Island 0997). Erik and wife Laura, who was a member of the USA National Volleyball team for five years, currently reside in Mira Mesa. The Johnson's have two little girls. Daly is 2 years old and Avery was born on April 1st, 2004.
