Erik Johnson begins his third season on USD's staff, bringing proven experience as a recruiter, motivator and enthusiastic teacher of the game. As the program 's recruiting coordinator, Erik is also in charge of post play instruction, scouting and practice planning. Before joining the Torero staff, Johnson spent four seasons at th e University of Rhode Island - the last two as first assistant under head coach Linda Ziemke. In addition to managing the bulk of the recruiting duties for the Rams, Johnson's primary coaching responsibilities at URI included developing post players, shooting, defense and scouting.
A native of San Jose, CA, Johnson was a four-year letter-winner at UC San Diego, leading the Tri tons to three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances including a Sweet- I6. He served as captaip and was the team's leading scorer as a sen ior completing his career as the all -time career and single-season three-point record holder. Johnson holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UC San Diego ( 1994) and completed his Master 's Degree in Adult Education from the University of Rhode Island in 1997. Johnson and his wife Laura Davis, a member of the USA National Volleyball team, cu1Tent ly resides in Mira Mesa.
NADINE MASTROLEO - 3RD YEAR Nadine Mastroleo enters her third year at USO after spending three years as the first assistant at Colgate University, under head coach Ron Rohn. Mastroleo was involved in all facets of the Red Raiders recruiting efforts. In cha rge ofAcademic Advisement for the Toreros, Nadine also is in charge of point guard development, recruiting, scouting and practice pl anning. In her pl aying career, Mastro leo spent one season at Syracuse before transferring to Un iversity at Buffalo, where she twice led the Royals to East Coast Conference championships and served as team captain in her senior season. While at Syracuse she was awarded the Mary Ann
Renehan award given to the player demonstrating tremendous courage and desire, and while at Buffa lo won Most Improved honors and the coaches award following her senior campaign. A native of Buffalo, NY, Mastroleo served on the Hea lth and Wellness Comm ittee at Co lgate and coordinated a student-athlete lecture series, obtaining funding through the Patriot League. She also coordinated Co lgate's Fighting Eating Disorders Group (FEDS) throughout the univers ity community. Mastroleo graduated in 1994 w ith a Bachelor's degree in Health and Human Services from Buffalo.
NICOLE ANDERSON - 1ST YEAR Nicole Anderson enters her first season with the University of San Diego women's basketba ll program. Anderson's responsibilities with the Toreros wi ll include working with the guards, supervisi ng weight lifting, fi lm exchange and recruiting. Before joining the Torero staff, Anderson served as the women 's var– sity Head Coach at nearby Francis Parker High School for six years. Anderson was a four-year letterwi nner ( 1989-93) at UCLA , lead ing the Bruins to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet– ! 6. She was se lected to the All Pac- IO Freshman Team , named All Pac–
IO First Team in her junior season and se lec ted Basketball Times All-America in her senior year. Anderson still claims a top-five ranking in all-time stea ls and assists for UCLA. Most recentl y, she was honored as one of UCLA's 15 All-Time Greatest Women 's Basketball Players. Anderson, a true point guard, was also a nominee for the John Naismith Award ... an award that honors the best guard (under 5'5") nationally. Anderson also lettered two years in softba ll for the Bruins, attending the Women's Co ll ege World Series in 1991 and 1993. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Sociol– ogy and graduated from UCLA in 1993.
After her successful co ll egiate career, Anderson moved on to play profess ional basketbal l. She played six months overseas in Ta iwan, before playing a partial season in the WNBA. In 1997, the WNBA's inaugural season, Anderson played fo r the Los Angeles Sparks. A native of San Diego, Anderson attended La Joll a High School, and current ly resides in the North Park area of San Diego.
