UNIVERSITY PROFILE The University of San Diego is an independent, Catholic university located on a 170-acre mesa overlooking Mission Bay, San Diego Harbor, and the Pacific Ocean. The campus is named Alcala Park after the Span ish university town where St. Didacus (i.e., Diego) spent much of his time. Complementing its splendid natural setting is the University's location just 10 minutes from downtown San Diego - con– veniently close to the major business, cultural, residential, and recreational areas, as well as the rail, bus and air terminals. Founded in 1949, USO is presently experiencing record at– tendance. Undergraduate enrollment stands at 2900, graduate students bring the overall campus enrollment to 4500. The University includes a College of Arts and Sciences, and Schools of Business Administration, Education, Nursing, and Law. Each is characterized by high academic standards, small classes, and excellent student-faculty relations. HEAD COACH JOHN MARTIN
John Martin has been the Univer- s·ty of San Diego women's volleyball coach since the pro– gram's inception in 1975. In the -' 'i seasons John has been at USO the women have gone to post – tournaments three times, including a 4th place finish in the AIAW Small College Nationals in 1976, and two 5th place finishes in the
'---__,,, 1977 and 1978 WAIAW Regionals. Under coach Martin's direction the USO volleyball program has grown from the Division II ranks to their current NCAA Division I status. Sophomore hitter Kim Crawford
PROSPECTUS: Seniors Liz Edwards and Kathy Lehner will lead the 1982 Toreras into their first season as an NCAA Division I competitor. With a year of experience, junior Lisa Maner and sophomores Kim Crawford, Marcia McEvers, Michele Rehrig and Cindy Wheat will be returning to form the core of the squad. New athlete's include junior college transfers Lori Robarge, the South Coast Conference MVP and Cerritos College woman athlete of the year, and Cindy Hall from Santa Monica City Col– lege. The only freshman is Ellen Silber, a San Diego CIF player from Torrey Pines High. Coming off an excellent spring, the women are looking for– ward to a fine 1982 season.
