PCSC Coaches Poll Picks Loyola Marymount

Defending champion Loyola Marymount was picked to repeat as Pacific Coast Softball Conference champions in 2008, according to the 2008 PCSC Preseason Coaches Poll released Friday. The Lions garnered four-of-six possible first-place votes and 34-of-36 possible overall points. The Lions have captured three of the five PCSC titles since

Last year, Loyola Marymount rolled through conference play with an impressive 18-2 record to finish 6.5 games ahead of second-place Sacramento State. The Lions were 47-18 overall and advanced to the Los Angeles Regional Final, where they fell to Hawai'i. Head coach Gary Ferrin also directed Loyola Marymount to PCSC titles in 2003 and 2005. Sacramento State was picked to finish second. The Hornets garnered one first-place vote and 27 points overall. The Hornets were followed by Portland State with 23 points. Saint Mary's (CA) was picked fourth with 17 points, followed by San Diego, 14 points, and Santa Clara with 11 points. The Broncos also received one first-place vote. The poll was conducted by the six PCSC head coaches. A first-place votes was worth si x points, five points for second place, four points for third place, three points for fourth place, two points for fifth place, and one point for sixth place.
