THE UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO

The University The University of San Diego is an independent Cathol ic institution of higher education . Founded in 1949, USO is located on 180 acres overlooking Mission Bay, San Diego Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. The campus , named Alcala Park , is located 1 O minutes from down– town San Diego. Academics USO enrolls more than 6,400 students who have a choice of more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs . The Univer– sity includes the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Schools of Business Administration, Education , Law and Nursing . Class size generally averages between 18-25 students with the student to teacher ratio being 18:1. Over 97 percent of USD's full-time faculty hold doc– torates .

Student Life Student activities include cultural events, dances, boat cruises, beach parties, BBQ's, concerts , com– edy nights , symposia and much more. Students participate in a wide range of volunteer projects such as adult literacy tutoring , senior citizen outreach and house building in Tijuana. Over two-thirds of the USO community partakes in intramural sports . The Campus The USO campus is one of the most architecturally unique institutions found in the country, featuring 18 major buildings designed in an ornamental 16th century Spanish Renaissance style. Since 1984, USO has completed nine major construction and expansion projects . A landscaped fountain plaza was finished in the fall of 1995, connecting the entrances of the lmmaculata and Hughes Admin istration Center. In 1992, the university completed the 45,000 square foot Loma Hall, which includes an expanded bookstore, classrooms and labs. In 1990, the renovated Katherine M. and George M. Pardee Jr. Legal Research Center opened . Plans are currently in the works for a new 5,000 seat arena to be constructed between the football and baseball stadiums . Athletics USO is a member of the West Coast Conference and competes in 16 intercollegiate sports on the NCAA Division I level. Men's sports include: baseball , basketball , crew, cross country, golf, football, soccer and tennis. Women's sports include: basketball , crew, cross country, soccer, softball, swimming , tennis and volleyball.

LIN ADAMS, Head Coach

Lin Adams is in her fourth season at the helm of the USD softball program. Adams was named head coach on Aug. 25, 1993. Last year's team finished 14- 37. Adams' career highlights include her first year at USD, leading the Toreros to a 25-21 record and its fifth consecutive twenty five-win season. Adams' coaching career spans all three NCAA Divisions (I, II, III). She owns a career record of 163-170-1 with previous stints at Chico State and UC San

Diego. Adams earned 1990 Coach of the Year honors in the Northern California Athletic Conference for Chico State. She inherited an 8-48 Wildcats team and gen– erated 19 victories the following season. Adams' also was co-head coach at UC San Diego for two years leading the Tritons to a 67-19-1 record, two consecutive

NCAA tournament appearances and a No. 2 ranking in Division III. The San Antonio, Texas native obtained her bachelor's (1980) and master's degrees from Chico State. She also holds a doctorate in Educa– tional Administration from the University of Texas.

DANI GOODLETT, Assistant Coach

Danielle Goodlett enters her fourth season as the top assistant coach at USD. She previously served as Adams' top assistant at Chico State and UCSD. Goodlett was a four-year starter at third base for UCSD (1984-88) and earned a Mathematics degree in 1989. She is currently a graduate student at San Diego State working on her teaching credential in Math and her Masters in Physical Education.

BILL CORBETT, Assistant Coach

Debbie Smith enters her fifth year with the Toreros softball program, but first season as a coach. Smith finished her play– ing career at USD last season and ranked second on the team in hits, runs and runs batted in. She batted .280 through 46 games and was the starting catcher.

Bill Corbett is in his second season with the Torero softball program as the pitching coach. Corbett spent 13 years coaching local travel teams and working with individuals in San Diego County. Eleven of his stu– dents have been named CIF Player of the Year and 23 have been recipients of student-athlete softball schol– arships to colleges and universities throughout the United States. Corbett also played fastpitch softball for 17 years. Corbett graduated from Amherst College in 1960. He served as a Intelligence Specialist in the U.S. Army for four years in South Korea. Currently, Corbett is the Chief Litigation Investigator for the City of San Diego and has held that position for 24 years.
