2005 SEASON REVIEW For the University of San Diego men 's tennis team, the 2005 season left a definite impression in USO record books . In his ninth season at the helm, head coach Tom Hagedorn and the Toreros qualified for their third straight NCAATournament appearance - a first in school history. With a preseason national ranking of 42 , Hagedorn welcomed back seven returners, including Paris, France native Pierrick Ysern who entered the season ranked 5 th nationally. The Toreros kicked off their season against Brigham Young University and would finish with an overall record of 16-7 upon season's end . San Diego would go on an eight-game win streak midway through the season, starting off with a 5-2 victory over St. Mary's to give Hagedorn his 100 th career win. Victories over powerhouse schools such as Arizona and Michigan led to a steady climb in the national rankings and the Toreros finished their season ranked No. 39. For their efforts , several Toreros received conference honors. Robbie Blair and Thomas Liversage were named wee Doubles Team of the Month for March and junior Pierrick Ysern was named Singles Player of the Month for April , and also First Team AII-WCC Singles. At season 's end, San Diego was seeded second for the WCC Tournament, reaching the finals before falling to 7 th -ranked Pepperdine by a score of 4-2. USO advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year, the first time in school history, where they faced No. 22 Stanford in the first round of action . Stanford would go on to defeat San Diego 4-0. Pierrick Ysern , however, would advance all the way to the finals of the singles tournament and was named the 2005 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis runner-up . At the end of the season, Ysern ranked 10 th in the nation and finished with an overall singles record of 26-7 . For the 2006 campaign, San Diego returns six players to the lineup and takes on another challenging schedule that includes top-ranked schools such as USC, UCLA, North Carolina, and Rice University. The Toreros are looking towards another successful season under Hagedorn's direction and hope to advance even further in their postseason efforts.
