MetLife Perhaps the biggest highlight of the USO home soccer sea– son, the annual MetLife Classic draws more fans, media cover– age and excitment to Torero Stadium than any other event. By lending its name and support, the MetLife Company and USO have teamed to field one of the best tournaments in the West. This year the Toreros will host UNC Charlotte, Michigan State and San Diego State September 20-22 at Torero Stadium. Torero Stadium Soccer night at Alcala Park draws with the best collegiate programs in the country in terms of attendance. Last season alone, USO drew over 13,000 fans for 11 home dates, averaging 1,240 spectators per game. USO ranked ninth in average atten– dance out of the institutions that competed in the NCAATour– nament last year. Since the late 1980s, many USO players have moved on to the pro ranks following their careers on the hilltop. The USISL has six former Toreros playing in its league. Guillermo Jara is the latest Torero to join his former teammates, playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer.

The West Coast Conference The WCC is considered one of the top soccer conferences in the nation. WCC teams have reached the NCAA Final Four five times in since 1988 (Portland 1988 & 1995; Santa Clara 1989 & 1991 ; USO 1992) with Santa Clara becoming co-national champs in 1989. San Francisco owns four national titles. In 1993, the WCC placed four teams in the NCAA tournament, more than any other conference.
