Brooks Dagman enters his 16th season as the Head Coach of Men 's Rowing at USD. Over the past 15 seasons, Dagman has turned the USD Men's Crew Program into one of the most respected programs in the west. During his tenure, Dagman has consistantly guided USD into the medals at both the regional and national level. In 2005 , the Toreros closed out season in fine fas hion with gold and silver performances at the Western Intercollegiate Rowi ng Association Championships (WIRAs). USD 's Novice Four won gold (and collected 16 sets of opponents racing shi rts) while the Varsity Four collected silver. The win at WIRAs is the program 's first set of golds at a major regional race in several years. The 2006 season was hi ghlighted with some of the strongest racing performances in the program 's history. The varsity eight raced to important dual race wi ns against Santa Clara and UCLA and finished with bronze medals at the WCC championships. The varsity also posted impressive wi ns at the City Champi onships in both the heavywe ight and lightweight fo ur races, with the lightweights going on to a silver medal race at
the WIRAs. The nov ice program collected several sets of medals, with the final set of medals coming with an impressive come-from-behind sprint to fi nish third at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia. Th is set of bronze medals marks the first set of medals collected by USD in the eight at a season ending Eastern champi onship race. Besides hi s USD position, he has also served as assistant coach on the U.S. National Row ing Team which competed in the Pan American Games in Argentina; has worked with the national team at Lake Otay; been President of the Western Intercollegiate Rowi ng Association; and served as the southwest representative for the Mens Olympic Rowing Committee. Dagman was named to the USD post in 1992 after seving as senior assistant coach at UCLA from 1986-91. He earned three varsity letters as an oarsman for the Bru ins ( 1982-85), receiving the team 's Most Valuable Oarsman Award in 1984. Brooks and hi s wife, Barbara, reside in Lemon Grove with their daughter, Madelei ne ( 13), and son, Hayden ( I).
Nick Navarro

Assistant Coach
Born and raised in San Diego, Nicholas arrived at USD in the autumn of l 999 with no prior rowing experience. After spendi ng hi s fi rst two years establishing himself in the program, he began to prosper in his junior year when he made the Varsity Lightweight 8 and was voted "Most Improved" for the 2002 season. In order to prepare for his senior season at USD, Nick spent the summer of 2002 in Vancouver, Washington as a coach, rigger and racing team member with Vancouver Lake Crew. The summer train ing paid off, and Nick quick ly establi shed himself as one of the top starboards on the team early in the season. He was a member of the Men's Open 4 that won the 2002 San Diego Fall Classic and sat bow in the Varsity 8 that set a school record of 5:58 fo r a 2,000 meter race at the 2003 WCC Championships, wi nni ng a silver medal in the process. That Varsity 8 went on to race in Phil adelphia at the Dad Vai l Regatta, where they fi ni shed a remarkable 9'" place in USD 's first appearance in a VS at that regatta. Nick was the only rower from hi s nov ice year to complete all four years of rowing, and he did so earning the team MVP honor in his senior year. ln 2005, Nick guided the nov ices to gold medals in the novice fo ur at the WIRAs. In 2006, Nick was instrumental in developing one of the strongest novice teams in USD history, wi th the team picking up several sets of medals in regional and national competition. • ,;•··· ',(,:,ij . .• :..•··••-"f·,· . •...·.••··.·• .
