The West Coast Conference Basketball Tournament heads to the bright lights ofLas Vegas and the Orleans Arena in 2009 as 16 teams battle for two chances to "Advance to theDanceJhiswill mark the first time in WCC history that the conference's premier event will be held at a neutral site. The 2009 basketball championships will be the 23rd annual event on the men's side and the 17th annual women's tournament,and will take place March 6-9, 2009. The West Coast Conference was formed in 1952 and has evolved and grown to become a nationally recognized and competitive force in Division I intercollegiate athletics, with 7 3 conference-sponsored sports: baseball, men's and women's bas– ketball, women's crew, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and women's volleyball. The WCC is characterized by the stability ofits membership - only two conferences have been together longer- and its uniqueemphasis on combining excellence in athletics with excellence in academics.

The seventh annual ESPNU BracketBusters event, a two-day men's college basketball extravaganza pitting potential NCAA Tournament hopefuls against each other on Feb.20-2 7, will feature 13 nationally televised games from the pool of 702 teams. San Diego isparticipating in its first BracketBusters, andjoins SaintMary's as the two teams selected from the West Coast Conference who will host a contest.. This year's BracketBusters pool features teams with 77 appearances in the last five NCAA Tournaments, including a team in the Final Four - George Mason /2006); one in the Elite Eight - Davidson /2008); and six Sweet Sixteen squads - Butler /2007), Southern Illinois /2007), Bradley /2006), Wichita State /2006), UW-Milwaukee /2005) and Nevada /2004). From the 2008 NCAA Tournament, 74 teams that received berths will be participating in the year's event - Austin Peay, Boise State, Butler, Cal State-Ful– lerton, Davidson,Drake,George Mason, KentState, Portland State, St. Mary's, San Diego, Siena, UMBC and Win throp.

The actual selection ofparticipating teams will take place on February 2, 2009.
