WCC BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT RETURNS TO SANDIEGO

The West Coast Conference Basketball Tournament moves to the state of California as the University ofSan Diego will host the conference's biggest event at theJenny Craig Pavilion in 2008. For the sixth consecutive season, the men's championship will use an 8-Team/ Play-ln format, while the women's championship will use the traditional 1 vs.8 format with no byes for the fourth straight year. The women will play March 6-9, 2008 and the men will square-off March 7- 10, 2008.

Women's Format Fo r the fourth straight year the tournament will use the traditional No. 1 seed vs. No. 8 seed format for the women's championship. All eight WCC school s wi ll play on the first day of the tournament with the No. 1 seed facing the No. 8 seed, the No. 2 seed facing the No. 7 seed, the No. 3 seed facing the No. 6 seed, and the No.4 seed fac ing the No. 5 seed. The w omen will play the first round on March 6, 2008 with a day off on March 7th . Play will resume with the semifina ls on March 8th and the championship game on March 9th. Men's Format Under the format that was adopted in 2003, the #5 through #8 seeds w ill compet e in the opening round to d et ermine who wi ll advance t o the next ro und of the tournament.Waiting for the winners in the quarterfin als w ill be the #3 and #4 seed s, who wi ll have first round byes. The w inners of the quarterfinal match-ups wi ll go head-to-head with the #1 and #2 seed s, who will have byes through the first two rounds of the tournam ent.
