6-5 wing player who transferred from Oregon State, and sophomore Ross DeRogatis, a 6-1 guard from Oklahoma State University. North put to– gether an outstanding prep career at nearby Saint Augustine High School in San Diego, and started 33 of 57 games for the Pac-10 Oregon State Beavers. During his freshman campaign he played in 29 games with 12 starts and hit for double digits against Stanford and Oregon. DeRogatis, who played his high school ball in Texas, will compete for playing time at both guard positions for USD. THE NEWCOMERS: Rounding out the Torero squad is three newcomers that are scholarship players, and one walk-on . Two juniors expected to see action right away include Michael Kirkpatrick , a 5-10 point guard from Dexheim, Germany, and Michael Shepherd, a 6-8 forward from Orem, Utah. Kirkpatrick began his collegiate career at North Carolina A&T and this past season played at College of Eastern Utah. Shephard comes to USD from Odessa College where he averaged 9.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg this past season. The lone scholarship freshman is Gyno Pomare, a 6-7 forward from nearby El Camino High School in Oceanside, CA. In two SoCal Regional playoff games last year he averaged 24.0 ppg and 15.0 rpg. For the season he averaged 19.1 ppg and 14.0 rpg while earning 2nd Team All-State recognition. Curtis White, a junior guard, will be a first year walk-on from nearby Eastlake High School (Chula Vista, CA).

A LOOK AT THE SCHEDULE: The Toreros will open the 2004-05 season on Nov. 16th with a road game at Arizona in the Preseason NIT Tournament. USD's home schedule begins with three straight dates against UC San Diego (Nov. 20), Occidental (Nov. 22) and San Jose State (Nov. 27). Additional home contests include Eastern Washington (Dec. 13), Northern Arizona (Dec. 18), UC Santa
Barbara (Dec. 22) and Creighton (Dec. 31). Nonconference road games include San Diego State (Dec. 1), University of Texas, at Arlington (Dec. 4), San Jose State (Dec. 7) , USC (Dec. 11 at SDSU's Cox Arena) and Wyoming (Dec. 28). The West Coast Conference schedule will begin with road games at Pepperdine (Jan. 7) and Loyola Marymount (Jan. 9). USD's first home WCC tilt will be against Portland on January 20th and will conclude on Feb. 26th against Saint Mary's College. The West Coast Conference Basketball Championships will be held at Santa Clara's Leavey Center (March 4-7)
