ShaneyFinkbegins her second year as USD's Aca– demic SupportCoordinator. Lastseason the cumulative grade point average for the 2001-2002 academic year among the 16 women'sandmen'sNCAAteamsexceeded3.0. Two seasons ago she was on the Torero volleyball coaching staffas a first yearassistant, helping the Toreros to a 23-6recordandsecondroundfinishintheNCAATournament. PriortoUSDshegainedcoachingexperienceatthehighschool, college and international levels for four years. She capped off a stellarcollegiate career (1990-93) at Cal Berkeleyandwon selectiontotheAll-Pac IODecadeTeam. Fink completed her B.A., graduating with honors in Social SciencefromBerkeleyin 1994. She is currentlyworking onaMastersDegree atUSD inCounseling. Recentlymarried, Shaney andherhusband,TomVorkoper, reside inDelMar.

ACADEMICSUPPORT CENTER"' The USOAthletic Academic Support Program is designed to promote the academic development of student-athletes. The primary objective is to offer the necessary resources for the academic success ofstudent-athletes as theywork to earn theirdegree. Academic Support Services aredesigned to enhance the student-athlete's overall collegiate experienceand encouragedevelopmentandattainmentofacademic and career goals. All USO student-athletes have access to advising, tutoring and mentoring services. Thementoringprogram,Access,wasdeveloped in 1999and teams agraduate student in the Counselingprogramwith an athletewhowould like to enhance study skills, learn about campus resources and receive guidance on goal development and attainment. Student-athletes also have access to aquiet area where they can study or work in the computer center. In addition, student-athletes are encouraged to utilize the campus learning centers including theWriting, Math andLogic Centers as well as to takeadvantageoftheresources available tothem in theCareerCenter,Counseling '" CenterandComputerLabs. ~
