HOMECOMING FESTIVITIES SET FOR NOVEMBER 5-7 Alumni from all class years are invited back to Alcala Park on the weekend of Nov. 5-7 for Homecoming 1993. This year's Homecoming will offer special activities for every interest, plus the opportunity to get reacquainted with USO classmates, faculty and administrators from all eras. The festivities begin on Friday, Nov. 5, with a special din– ner for all alumni in the Hahn University Center. The dinner will honor longtime USO faculty members who have recently retired (please see related article on page 10 of this issue). On Saturday, the entire family will have an opportunity to participate in a SK-run or a 3K-walk through campus. A num– ber of academic departments will be hosting special receptions to allow alumni to mingle with each other and with their for– mer professors. Participating departments include accounting, biology, chemistry, communications studies, English, history, international relations and political science. And the Office of Career Services will present a seminar for alumni, "Careers in the '90s: The Challenge of Change." At noon on Saturday, the traditional tailgate party will take place in the stadium parking lot prior to the football game. A "future Torero" area for children will be provided, complete with games and entertainment. As for the football game, the Toreros will take on a new opponent in Drake University as they participate in their first year of Pioneer Football League Division I-AA play. For the classes of 1953, 1958, 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983 and 1988, Saturday night will be special indeed, with reunions reuniting alumni with friends, faculty and administra– tors from all eras. There also will be a special celebration (com– plete with food and entertainment) for all alumni from the 1989 through 1993 graduating classes to recognize Senior Class Gift donors and scholarship recipients. By tradition, USO Homecoming comes to a close on Sun– day morning with a celebration of Homecoming Mass in Founders Chapel. The Mother Rosalie Hill Award will be pre– sented during the Mass, with a reception following. Homecoming invitations and schedules should be in the mail soon. MEMORIAM

Father Jahn Myhan, 75, died May 23, 1992, in Medford, Ore., following a long illness. Born Nov. 7, 1916, in Tacoma, Wash., Father Myhan was ordained in 1947 at St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco. H e taught history at USD from 1963-74 and received an Out– standing Professor Award in 1965....William Hagan '61, retired former news editor and film critic of the San Diego Tribune, died Jan. 14 at the age of 60. A much-admired critic who studied cinema at Columbia University under the likes of Judith Crist and Walter Kerr, H agen started at the Tribune in 1961 as a member of the Copley Trainee Program and worked his way up through the ranks. H e retired from the paper early in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Julie, four children, Molly, John, Matthew and Catherine, and seven grandchildren... . Glenn Millan Mitchell '68 died Dec. 5 of cancer. At USD School of Law, he graduated first in his class, cum laude, and was editor of the Law Review. He was a founding member of McCormick & Mitchell, where he had practiced law since 1971, spe– cializing in workman's compensation matters. Glenn is survived by his wife, Alice Tirey Mitchell, their two children, Frank and Josephine, his son Glenn and daughter Laura, and his stepchildren, Jeffrey Carter and Deana Carter, a USD graduate.
