NICOLE (ANGLE) BERGEN (B.B.A.) and her husband, Scott, celebrated their first anniversary on Aug. 13, 2006. Nicole is a research manager for Time Warner Cable in Los Angeles and was recently named manager of the year. Scott is in his seventh year of teaching at his other alma mater, St. Francis High School in La Cañada, Calif. CHANTELLE DAVIS (B.B.A., J.D. ’05) and Casey Fisher ’03 were married on Aug. 12, 2006, at The Immaculata at USD. Chantelle practices law in San Diego, and Casey is inmedical school. EMILY ROTH (B.A.) spent the past two years teaching in Guatemala, where she met her husband, Luis Bolaños. They were married in Antigua, Guatemala, on June 10, 2006. Both have jobs at another international school in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emi- rates, for the next two years. Emily will teach first grade, and Luis will work in the information technology depart- ment and coach varsity soccer. LESTER SEBASTIAN (M.B.A.) has been with Wells Fargo Bank since 2003. He is a commercial loan officer and assistant vice president in San Diego, helping entrepreneurs pur- chase their buildings, equipment, businesses and business lines. [ 2 0 0 3 ] ELISABETH BIEBL (B.A.) has been living in Vail, Colo., for two years. “I suppose I’m taking a break from the real world,” she says. “While in Vail, I’ve worked on Vail Mountain as a ‘yellow jacket’ (basically skiing around five days a week, helping the ski patrol and lost or injured guests), and have delved into the nearly non- existent public relations scene in the area, among other odd jobs. It’s been a blast, but unless a miracle trust fund appears, I’ll be back in the San Francisco Bay area to continue pursu- ing a ‘real’ job in PR.” GARLAND BLACKWELL (LL.M.T.) established the Garland Blackwell Scholarship Fund at North Carolina A&T State University. DAVID BRENNAN (LL.M.I.) enjoys teaching international law and international business transaction courses as an adjunct professor at Western State University College of
Law in Fullerton, Calif. He also is faculty adviser to the International Law Students Association. BASIL CONSIDINE (B.A.) gradu- ated from Boston University in 2006 with an M.T.S. in theology and musi- cology. He finished with seminary and is a Ph.D. student in musicology at Boston University. SCOTT HAWMAN (M.S.G.L.) works as a civilian at the Department of Defense in Hawaii.“The project management courses I took as part of the M.S.G.L. program apply directly to my job as the programmanager for infrastructure support within a joint interagency task force,”he says.“I would highly recommend USD to any transitioning military officers preparing themselves for a civilian career.” ERIKA SHARP (B.A.) married Ben Powers ’01 on April 22, 2006, at San Pedro Catholic Church in Ambergris Caye, Belize in Central America. Erika and Ben were married by the bishop of Belize, and many USD alumni attended. They honeymooned in Belize and Guatemala, and currently live in San Diego. ELLA (ROBINSON) SLOAN (ED.D.) retired from City College in San Diego on June 30, 2006, and plans to pursue a second career in the nonprofit sector. She founded the W.E.B. DuBois Leadership Institute for Young Scholars in 1997, targeting fourth- through eighth-grade stu- dents. Ella also facilitates student travel to West Africa, taking school supplies to children in the Ashanti village in Kumasi, Ghana. AARON TUBBS (B.B.A.) recently returned from a year-long trip around the world. Aaron now works for a New Zealand touring company lead- ing outdoor tours all around the Unit- ed States. [ 2 0 0 4 ] JAMIE BANKER (M.A.) is working toward a Ph.D. inmarriage and family therapy at VirginiaTech in Blacksburg, Va. ERIN BURKE (B.A.) is a full-time graduate student at Colorado State University, expecting to graduate in May with a master's degree in social work. Erin also works as a school social worker in grades K-12. In July 2006, she was a bridesmaid in the wedding of her USD roommate,
Uruguay, with the English language fellows program. She will work close- ly with the Council of Primary Educa- tion and the Office of Bilingual Edu- cation to develop curriculum and materials for 34 primary English immersion schools. Her duties will include advising school directors on best practices developed in United States immersion schools, conduct- ing in-service and pre-service teacher training, and monitoring and assess- ing educational programs. JAYMIE GONZAGA (M.A.) is still working as an adjunct counselor pro- fessor at MiraCosta, Miramar, City and Cuyamaca community colleges in the San Diego region. Jaymie also is a single parent to Bart, 17, and a mili- tary police officer with the California Army National Guard. [ 2 0 0 1 ] CHRISTINE BROWN (M.F.A.) continues to have success in her act- ing career. During the spring of 2006, she completed the role of Sarah in the play “Trying” at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. In August, Christine played the female lead (a girl with bipolar disorder) in an industrial film shot in New York City for a drug company that produces Risperdahl. In the fall, she was cast as Masha in Anton Chekov’s classic play “Three Sisters,” at the Center Stage Theatre in Baltimore, Md. ALLISON DUSHANE (B.A.) earned a master’s degree from Duke University in the spring of 2006. She is working toward a Ph.D. in English. CHRIS FALCIONI (B.A.) and his wife, Stacey, welcomed their first child, Kai Roa, on April 11, 2006. She weighed 5 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 17 inches long. SCOTT FELBER (B.A.) married his wife, Anabella, in 2002, and they wel- comed a son, Drew Matthew, on Aug. 23, 2006. Drew weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces. Scott is a teacher at Ores- timba High School, and Anabella is a fourth-grade teacher at Von Renner Elementary, both in Newman, Calif. KENNETH GARRISON (LL.M.T.) is a qualified intermediary with Investment Exchange Group, and he facilitates Internal Revenue Service code 1031 tax-deferred exchanges. “I had an article published in Realtor Magazine in May 2006 with over
1.3 million readers,” he says. “The arti- cle was entitled ‘See Past Myths’ and explains some of the misconceptions regarding 1031 exchanges.” Kenneth and his wife, Ann, live in Pueblo, Colo. JOHN HEMMERLING (J.D.) has been with the San Diego City Attor- ney’s Office since graduation. He is the police legal adviser. John spent June 2005 to June 2006 on military leave to Iraq. JAMES HEWETTE (M.S.G.L.) married Ingrid Schroeder in June 2004 and then left the active Navy in December 2004 to fly for UPS Airlines as an MD-11 international first officer. Recently, James and Ingrid had a baby boy, J.B. “Life is good!” James says. “I am writing this from a hotel in Hong Kong as I prepare for tonight’s flight to Anchorage, Alaska.” JAMES HEWLETT (B.B.A.) lives in Portland, Ore. “I’m trying to weather the wettest winter on record for the Northwest,” he says of early 2006. “Most of my contracting business is outdoors. Business is booming.” JUAN OROZCO (B.A.) completed his M.B.A. degree at Washington University’s Olin School of Business and was accepted into Raytheon’s Supply Chain Leadership Develop- ment Program. ELIZABETH PARKER (J.D.) married Tim Gamber on Oct. 16, 2004, and they welcomed a daughter on Aug. 2, 2005. “I stopped practicing law shortly before Molly was born,” she says. “In January 2006, I began working as an elementary school teacher through the Clark County School District’s alternative route to licensure program.”The family lives in Las Vegas. DOMENICA (CIMARUSTI) PEARL (B.A.) and her husband, Joey, are happy to announce the birth of their daughter, Savina August, on June 21, 2006. [ 2 0 0 2 ] LORI ABELLA (B.A.) is in graduate school at Dominican University in River Forest, Ill. “I will graduate in May 2007 with a master’s degree in library and information science,” she says. “My present plan is to become a school librarian, although I have not yet chosen a specific grade range.”
