C H A N G E MA K E R C H A N G E MA K E R C H A N G E MA K E R C H A N G E MA K E R C H A N G E MA K E R C H A N G E MA K E R A THIRD OF INCOMING FRESHMAN specifically state that making the world a better place is one of the factors that brought them to campus, says incoming Changemaker Hub Director Mike Williams ‘92. “They’re coming here not only for our academics, but for the opportunity to be hands-on when it comes to making a difference in the world.” Williams, an associate professor of political science, walks the walk: He’s been bringing groups of students to the tiny South African village of Makuleke for the past several years. The idea is to nurture and grow a personal, meaningful relationship with the people there, and to collaborate with local high school students who are eager to advocate for better educational resourc- es. “For the first time in my career, I feel my passion for improving the lives of others and for intellectual understanding overlapping,” says Williams.
