COURAGEOUS ADVOCATE Shirin Ebadi, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003, was the first Iranian and the first Muslim woman to receive the prize. She spoke eloquently about the rights of women and children in Islam as a speaker in the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice’s Distinguished Lecture Series in early September. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the IPJ, a milestone that will be celebrated through- out the year (see page 11).
