John Martin has been a member of the USO athletic staffsince 1975. He was the school's first head women's volleyball coach, a post he held through the 1989 season, and also oversaw the Recreation Depart– ment. As volleyball coach, he directed theToreros to three postseason appearances, including a 4th place

Reed came to USO from Cal Berkeley where he held the title of Assistant Sports Events Manager for two years. A graduate of Saint Mary's College

.________ (B.A. in Politics, '96; M.A. in Sports Administration, '99), Reed also held athletic department positions at Saint Mary's College and with the West Coast Conference. Reed oversees the management and marketing of the building to help bring in outside events like concerts, trade-shows, etc. Carl resides in Pacific Beach. Derek Hillestad JCP Asst. Director/Events Manager Derek Hillestad begins his first year as Assistant Director of the Jenny Craig Pavilion and Events Manager. He comes to USO from Ball State Univer– sity where this past year he was a Graduate 1:;;;;::;;;;;;;;;;;;;=:.I Assistant for Sports Facilities and Recreation Programs. During this time he was also a Security Control Supervisor for the RCA Dome in Indianapoli s, Indiana. He also earned job re lated experience as an Event Operations Supervisor for Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin; as a Program Assistant for the Depart– ment of Recreationa l Sports at Texas A&M; and as Event Co-Coordi– nator for the Department of Recreation Management at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He graduated from Wisconsin-La Crosse with a B.S. in Recreation Management (2000), and is currently working towards hi s M.S. in Ath letic Administration through Ball State University.

As Director of Athletic Facilities, Martin oversees all the schedul– ing, field maintenance and purchasing. He was the department's key liason during the construction of the Jenny Craig Pavilion which opened in October, 2000. A graduate of San Diego State (B.A. & M.A. in History), John resides in Encinitas with his wife Jane. They have two chi ldren: Eliza, a 200 I graduate of USO, and son, Patrick, a sophomore at USO. ~~~~~~ Andy Fee Asst. Director ofAthletic Facilities Andy is in his first year at USO in the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Facilities. Fee wi ll assist John Martin in overseeing all the scheduling, field maintenance and purchasing for the department's ath letic venues. Fee comes to USO from Arizona State Univer– sity where he was Assistant Director of Facility Operations for Athletics the past two seasons. Before that he was Facility Supervisor for the ASU Student Recreation Complex. Besides his work at ASU, he developed Athletics and Management skills with the NFL Cardinals, Fiesta Bowl and PGA Phoenix Open. From Scottsdale, Arizona, he earned his B.A. in Political Science with a minor in History in 1996 from Arizona State University. ~==~=~ Mike Matoso Assistant AD/Compliance Coordinator Mike Matoso, recently elevated to Assis– Academic Counse lor at USC where he was involved with the football , baseball, women's soccer, swimm ing and vo lleyba ll programs. Prior to USC, Mike served as the Academic Advisor for all 18 interco ll egiate programs for Ca l Poly San Luis Obispo for two years. He earned both his B.S. degree in Physical Education ( 1993) and M.A. in Education, Counse ling ( 1994) from Cal Poly. He was also a starting pitcher for the Mustangs baseball team that finished 2 nd in the Division II College World Series. Mike and his wife, Kelly, reside in Carlsbad with their daughter, Abigai l. Tony Valle Athletic Ticket Manager

Tony Valle begins his first year as USD's Athletic Ticket Manager at the Jenny Craig Pa– vi lion. Valle comes to USO from Ohio State

University where he was the Assistant Director for Ath letics Ticketing and Game Management the past two years. Prior to that he was a Customer Service Manager at Ohio State University for a little more than one year. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Ohio State University in 1999, and a B.A. in Criminology in 1998. He is currently enroll ed in the University of San Diego's Masters Program for Education.

Jimmy Goins, JCP Fitness Center Director/ Asst Strength & Conditioning Coach Jimmy Goins begins his second year at USO where he is the Jenny Craig Pavilion Fitness Center Director, along with being the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Prior to USO, Goins was the Head Strength

Dean Aresco is in his second season as US D's Strength and Conditioning Coach. He came to USO via Towson State Univer– sity where he was their head coach for three

and Conditioning Coach for the Cincinnati Reds AA team, the Chat– tanooga Lookouts. He also gained experience at the University of Tennessee where he was a Graduate Assistant Coach and Sport Nutritionist, and at Louisiana State University as the Undergraduate Strength Coach. He earned his B.S. degree in Kinesiology from LSU ( 1998), then later earned a M.S. degree in Sport Management and M.S. minor in Nutrition from Tennessee (2000). He is a member of the National Strength Coaches Association, and is a certified Strength and Condi– tioning Specialist.

Additional professional experiences include stints at the Uni– versity ofConnecticut as a Graduate Assistant, and at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in San Diego as the Interim Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. He earned his B.S. in Exercise Physiology in 1995 from the University of Connecticut, and is close to comp leting his M.A. degree there in the same field. A NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Speciali st, he also holds memberships with NSCA, the U.S. Weightlifting Federation, and the American Co ll ege of Sports Medicine.
