Kerry Peoples enters his senior season with the Toreros on the defensive side of the ball ... will start at linebacker in 1998 ... last season tallied 41 tackles, 1QB sack, 6 tackles for losses, and 1interception (Valparaiso) with 5 starts in 9 contests ... career-best 11 tackles versus Cal Lu ... added 7 tackles against Redlands .. . in 1996 he started the first 3 games before being lost to a hamstring injury in game three at Drake .. . finished season with 9 tackles (5 solo) ... tallied 8 tackles against Cal Lutheran in game two ... his playing time was limited in 1995 after he broke his wrist-- he came back to play at the end of the season ... in four '95 contests he was in on 6 tackles .. . prepped at Loara High School in Anaheim, California where he was an All-County (Los Angeles) linebacker ... he was also a two-time All-League performer and team captain ... hobbies include surfing and weight lifting ...summer of 1998 interned with local mortgage banking firm. Dan Ritter returns for his 4th and final season as an offensive lineman with the Toreros ... is projected to see considerable playing time at strong guard in 1998 ... this past season played back-up at both strong guard and center ... prepped at Barron A. Collier High School where he was a three-sport letterwinner in football, wrestling, and track & field ... football team finished 11-3 and were District co– Champs with a final state ranking of 5th ... team captain in both wrestling and football ... brother (Richard) played football at Indiana State ... dad (Dan), a Torero football assistant for the offensive line in 1985, also was head coach/athletic director at University of San Diego High School, and an assistant at Indiana State University for nine years ... chose USD for educational opportunities .

Lukas Smart returns for his 4th year at USD as a defensive lineman ... a two-year starter, he will anchor the defensive front in 1998 .. . last season he started 9 contests and finished with 26 tackles (3 for loss) and 1 fumble recovery ... season-best 5 tackles versus Azusa; posted 4 tackles in three other games ... in 1996 he started all 10 games, finishing with 36 tackles (23 solo) ... also had team-best 6 quarterback sacks (-35), 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries .. . recorded 5 solo tackles in season-opener at Chico State ... tallied 6 tackles and 1 fumble recovery versus Cal Lutheran ... added 6 tackles and I quarterback sack at Saint Mary's ... posted 2 1/2 sacks for-16 yards in win over Whittier College ... a native San Diegan whose hometown is Coronado, Lukas prepped at Coronado High where he was team MVP, an All-Region Blue-Chip honoree and First Team All-League his senior year ... also lettered in track & field. Tennyson Tom returns for his second season with the Toreros defensive unit ... last season he started 8 of 10 contests at linebacker finishing with 51 tackles (22 unassisted), 2 QB sacks, 5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, 1blocked kick and 2 pass deflections ... the 51 tackles ranked sixth on the team and ranks 4th on the list for '98 returners ... he posted 10 tackles twice last season against Drake and Wagner ... he also added 7 stops against Azusa Pacific and Redlands ... from Kaneohe, Hawaii, Tennyson prepped at Kamehameha Schools where he was a three-time Honorable Mention ILH (Interscholastic League of Honolulu) football player .. . his brother (Douglas) was a three-year starter at defensive tackle for the San Diego Aztecs between 1993-95. Kris Eggert returns for his third season with the Toreros on defense ... a two-year letterman at the defensive back position, last season Kris appeared in seven contests where he totaled 21 tackles (7 solo) ... best outings came against Cal Lutheran (5 tackles) and Butler (4 tackles) ... from Vashon Island, Washington, Kris prepped at Vashon Island High School where he was an All-League performer in both football and baseball .. . he participated in the All-State game his senior year in football ... chose USD for its location and academics ... has made the Dean' s List at USD three times (Fall, '96; Spring '97 & '98). Major: International Relations; Minor: Business Administration.
