JIM WACHENHEIM Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Jim enters his second season with the Torero staff as Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach. Jim came to USD from Occidental College in Los Angeles where for three years ( 1993-95) he was Defensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator. Prior to Occidental he held coaching positions at Cal State Fullerton (1991-92), ASU (1989-90), Pacific (1985-88) and North Central College ( 1983-85). He played football at College of DuPage where he was a NJCAA Region 5 All-State defensive back and fini shed his playing career at North Central College in Naperville,Illinois. He graduated from North Central in 1978 where he earned a double major in Physical Education and Recreation. Jim and his wife Kimberly have two daughters, Gretchen (5) and Hannah (2). a full-time assistant with USD'scoaching staff. Aftercoaching linebackers and directing Special Teams his first two seasons (1 993, 1995), Bill moved over to offense last year where he was the Offensive Coordinatorand coached the running backs. In 1997 he will again be Offensive Coordinator, and coach the offensive line. In addition to his coaching duties, he plays a major role in USD's recruiting efforts.

A 1981 graduate ofOccidental, Bill earned his undergraduate degrees in Physical Education and History - he completed his teaching credential from Oxy in the spring of 1982. Besides USD, his vast coaching experiences include stints at New Mexico State (1982-85); San Francisco State ( 1986); as Offensive Coordinatorand Offensive Line Coach at Occidental (1987-90); Offensive Line Coach atCS Fullerton (1991-92); and Offensive Coordinator/RecruitingCoor– dinator at Redlands ( 1994). MIKE RISH Recehers Mike is beginning his 14th season on the Torero staff. Mike played for USD from 1979-83 and is the school 's all-time career leader in three receiving categories: receptions (10 I), touchdowns ( 18) and receiving yardage (1,722 yards). Mike graduated from USD with an Ac– counting degree in 1984. He is the Assistant Vice President for Secondary Marketing for Guild Mortgage Co!Ilpany in San Diego. Bob enters his second year with the USD staff where he will again coach the quar– terbacks. Prior to USD he was the Defensive Coordinatorandquarterbackscoach at Montclair Prep High School in Van Nuys, California for two seasons. The 1994 squad won the CIF Championship.

Prior to Montclair he held coaching positions at Occidental ( 1993); head coach at Bishop Montgomery HS ( 1992); head coach at Pius X ( 1991 ); head coach at Daniel Murphy HS ( 1990); quarterback/wide receiver coach at Occidental( 1988, 1989) where they were two-time SCIAC Champs;and wide receiver coach at Nevada ( 1983-84 ), where they won the Big Sky title in 1983. Bob earned his B.S.degree in Physical Education & Health in 1982 from Western Michigan University (he played wingback four years); and more recently earned his M.Ed. (emphasis in P.E.) from Azusa Pacific. Bob and his wife Jeannette have one son, Jamie (age 5), and reside in Bonita.

Shay begins his first season with the Toreros where he will coach the Inverts on defense and be Special Teams Coordinator. Shay is a 1994 graduate of Southern Oregon University where he earned his B.S. in Health Promotion & Fitness Management. A four–

From McCloud, California, Shay was a three-sport letter winner at McCloud High School , earning All-State football honors his senior year. The past three seasons he was the Head Secondary Coach at Southern Oregon (1994-96). Shay and hi s wife, Stacey, reside in San Diego. Jason begins his first season with the Toreros where he will coach the defensive line. The past three seasons Jason was a Coaches' Assistant on the Oakland Raiders staff. In 1993 he worked part-time with the Raiders staff and was OL/DL Coach at North Torrance High School in Torrance, California.

A 1993 graduate from USC, Jason earned hi s B.S. degree in Journalism. While at USC, Jason was Head Football Manager for four years ( 1989-92) on Larry Smith's teams. From Lincolnwood, Illinois (suburb of Chicago), Jason prepped at Niles West HS and lettered in football and track.

His senior year he was Honorable Mention NCJ\C and 2nd Team UAA. From Dover, Ohio, he prepped at Indian Valley HS. MARK MILLER Defensive Assistant Mark is in his first year with theToreros program where he wi ll assist on defense. A 1997 graduate of Pacific, he earned his B.A. in Liberal Studies and played three years of baseball. He is currentl y working on his Teaching Credential at San Di ego State. Last year he was assistant coach (li nebackers) under his father at Linden Hi gh School in Linden, California.

Chris begins his first season with the Toreros where he will coach the tight ends. A 1996 graduate of Redlands iwth a

B.S. degree in Business Economics. Chris was a two-time AII-SCIAC performer as an offen– sive center,playing fort he Bulldogs during 1994 & 1995. Prior to Red lands, Chris played two years at Citrus Junior College where he was First Team All-State and an Academic All-American. From San Marino High School. Chris prepped at San Marino High School where he played three years of varsity football as an offensive lineman.
