TOI leaser Name the last player to win the Heisman Trophy and a national cham– pionship and be named MVP of a bowl game in the same season.
A look Hack at...1946 Wrth World War II over, it was time for college football to resume a full-scale season. Army had won the last two nation– al championships, but would face a stiff chal–
lenge from Notre Dame, with Fighting Irish head coach Frank Leahy returning to the sideline after a two-year stint with the Navy in the Pacific theater. The Army-Notre Dame game at Yankee Stadium-a showdown between the top two teams in the nation-was easily the most anticipated contest of the sea– son. The game ended in a scoreless tie, and Army retained its No. 1 ranking. The Cadets, however, would later lose their chance for a third straight title when they barely beat a struggling Navy squad, 21-18. The narrow win marked the final game for Army's record-setting backfield tandem of Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis, and opened the door for Notre Dame to claim its first championship since 1943. 1946 fact Sheet Heisman Winner: Glenn Davis, Army Rushing Champ: Rudy Mobley, Hardin-Simmons
