UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO BASEBALL
USO Torero Strength & Conditioning The USO Strength & Conditioning program is under the direction of Dean Aresco (4th year) and Hans Straub, Assistant Strength & Cond itioning Coach and Director of the McNamara Fitness Cen ter. The University of San Diego athletic department
recognizes the need for all athletes of all sports to engage in a comprehensive strength and conditioning program. The USO strength and conditioning program has been designed to develop functional strength, speed , power and endurance. The development of these physical attributes is ineffective if the athletes are not able to carry them over to the playing field. Adheri ng to a properly designed program of strength train ing, conditioning and nutrition can enable our men and women to become the best possible athletes they can be, while simultaneously reducing the incidence of injury. The heart of the strength and conditioning program is the Jenny Craig Pavilion fitness center (3,800 square feet) and the USO Sports Center weight room (5,000 square fee t). Both weight rooms contain Olympic platforms, free-
weights, selectorized machines, dumbbells and cardiovascular equipment, and are open exclusively to student-athletes at specific times each day. USO student-athletes receive intensive instruction on proper weight tra ining technique; speed, power and agility development; and sport-specific conditioning. Their strength and conditioning prog rams are specific to the nature of their sport or position. Each athlete is individually monitored throughout their program to ensure the greatest chance of ath letic progress .
