2003: Drafted in the 44th round of the 2003 MLB First Year Player Draft by Boston despite taking a medical redshi.rt -appearing in just nine games at the beginning of the season ... Did not pitch ... Registered 31 at-bats and hit for a .290 average... Stole a pair of bases and went 2-for-4 with an RBI against his former team, Texas (2-2-03)... Put up back-to-back 2-hit games against both UC Riverside (2-21-03) and Oregon State (3-1-03)... Knocked in four RBI in just nine games and eight starts, all as a DH. Junior in 2002: Caple did it all for the Toreros during USD's champion– ship season of 2002 ... He was honored as an All-West Coast Conference First Team player for the second consecutive season ... As San Diego's everyday centerfielder, he hit .318 in 2002, helping USD amass a school record 39 wins... Enjoyed a 12-game hitting streak in which he went 4- for-6 and drove in five runs at San Francisco (3-8-02) ... Scored 54 times, hit 11 doubles and drove in 30 nms ... As a pitcher, Caple earned WCC Pitcher of the Week honors three times... Began the season 6-0 as USD's Saturday starter.. Posted a USD single-game best 11 K's in just four innings against UC Irvine (1-25-02)... Fanned 95 batters on the year, second only to teammate Ricky Barrett in d1e WCC. .. BaseballAmerica tabbed Caple's breaking ball as the best in the league entering the 2003 season... On four different occasions Caple fanned 10 or more batters, including doing so in back-to-back starts against division rivals Portland (3-23-02) and Loyola Marymount (3-30- 02).
