Loyola Marymount was the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Regionals in 1990 while both LMU and Pepperdine represented the wee in 1989. Other conference members indude the University of Nevada, the University ofSan Diego, the University of San Francisco, Santa Clara University and St. Mary'sCollege. In 1990 Loyola Marymount broke a string of five straight WCC baseball championships set by Pepperdine. Pepperdine had won or shared every conference title since 1974 -a span of nine straight WCC crowns. The Waves won three before baseball was dropped as a conference sport after the 1976 season and continued to win titles when baseball was reinstated with a tournament in 1984 and round-robin format in 1985. Baseball was originally established as a conference sport in 1968. However, from 1977 through 1984, wee teams com- peted with teams from the PCAA in the Northern California Baseball Association (Nevada, St. Mary's, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Pacific, San Jose State, Fresno State), and the Southern California Baseball Association (Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, and San Diego from the WCC). For the second straight year, the WCC will play a 36-game round robin schedule with the league champion receiving the WCC's automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs.
