He studied for thr years at the former Im• macu late Heart Seminary a nd the present St. ~- ra nci Seminary, Alcala Park, and then entered the University of San Die1to College for Men from which he was graduated ID 1966, FoJJowing graduation he enlisted in the Army, attended the Pa ra trooper School and ocs and was commissioned a second lieutenant. The formation of this Con- rerence opens doors on ex- citing new possibilities for serious dialogue with each other and effective coopera- tion in solving the numerous problems facing us here in our own county. The program areas indicate the fields of challenge. From these areas of real need comes the "Damas- cus call" which we must an- swer, and answer together. Theological Dialogue Think or what can be done in getting to know each other with greater perception through theological dialogue in many different forms . Think what our joint experience and ex• pertise and resources can do in the rnst regions of social concern. Think of our need to cooperate with one another in the gigantic work of Christian education. I can envision very exciting programs, for example, being developed between this Con- ference and the Roman Catho- lic Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and our Diocesan De- partment of Education. Think what we can learn from each other and what creative work we can do together in many special ministries: to college students, to our senior citi• zens, to the sick, to persons in many other areas where the

love of God and the knowledge of Christ have not sufficiently penetrated. In all these activities, of which earnest prayer is the heart and soul (Decree on Ecumenism No. 8), we will grow together. True ecumen• ism does not seek to "return" to a past situation or to sanc- tify a present situation. It strives unceasingly for a future and complete reconciliation of all those who bear the name of Jesus Christ. The most fundamental move• ment is not that of Com- munions toward each other, but that or all Christians to• ward Christ in prayer, serious theological dialogue and in- volvement in ministering to the whole or God's People. Great Expectations I have come this evening in behalf of the Diocese of San Diego with great joy, because we are jointly inaugurating a new era in ecumenism. We who constitute this Conference - and the many others who will join us - enter this era with great expectations, our hearts firmly fixed on the risen living Lord who, with the Holy Spirit, is drawing all things to the Father (Ephesians 1). We know that in God's time and rn God's way, the priestly prayer of Christ will be fu - filled. "May they all be one. Father, may they be one in us, as you are in me and I am in you, so that the world may be- lieve it was you who sent me." (John 17:21).

Cast Listed In "The Creation" with-Miss Bernal and Robertson will be Phoebe Meyers, Rebecca Shofner and Clarence Carl, plus the corps de ballet. Elaine Thomas, principal teacher of ballet at the School of Performing Art , l1as been instructing Miss Bernal. Wayne Davis. an i11structor there, choreographed the work. The 24-year-old ballerina was a member of U1e San Francisco Ballet Company and studied with the Royal Ballet of England and the Danish Royal Ballet before she joined the convent in 1964. While a nun she had the dis- tinction of dancing the first Mass in 1968, at the Natonal Theology Convention in the Saint Francis Hotel, San Fran- cisco. Her life as a nun is still fresh in the mind of Tina Ber- nal, but she is adjusting to her "civilian" career as a balle- rina. The petite dancer (5:2 and 90 pounds) will make her first public appearance since leav- ing the convent in a program at the Civic Theater Sunday at .- 8p.m. She will dance the role of El'e in Milhaud's "The Crea- tion of the World," which will be a part of the American Youth Performs' concert by the San Diego Youth Sym- phony Orchestra. Robertson Dances Adam Miss Bernal will be guest artist with the School of Per- forming Arts' ballet troupe staging the Milhaud work. HPr partner will be Larry Rob- ertson, who will appear as Adam. What brought about the de- cision to leave the convent of the Religious of the Sacred Heart in El Cajon, a teaching order, and return to the dance field? "Last Dec. 8 I would have had lo renew my vows as a nun far three ore years." she said in a recent interview. "I would say that from Octo- ber on I debated whether to stay or leave.
