Lechner, the Bishop's ecretary, read a n English translation of the papal document designating U1e six pnests as honorary prelates deserving of "universal recognition .. Then the six monsignors came forward before Bishop Maher, who sat in front of U1e altar, to make their solemn pledge of allegiance. The Bishop presented each with the papal scroll of his elevation. Then the prela-tes retired to vest themselves for U1e Mass. Four nuns led by Mother F'rances Danz, superior of the religious community of USD College for Women, presented the offertory gifts to Bishop Maher at the altar. Two additional priests of the diocese were designated honorary prelates at the same time as U1e other six. They are Msgr. William F Clavin, pastor of St. Mary's Star of the Sea, Oceanside, and Msgr. Thomas J. O'Toole, pastor of St. Anne's, San Bernardino. The investiture rites for Msgr. Clavin will take place at 5:30 tonight, Thursday, and U1ose for Msgr. O'Toole on Sunday, December 14, both in U1eir respective churches.
