Most Rev Leo T. Maher, Bishop of Santa Rosa, will be installed as the third Bishop of the Diocese of San Diego at Solemn rites beginning 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, in St. Joseph's Cathedral, 1535 Third Avenue. Archbishop Liugi Raimondi, Apostolic Delegate in the United States, will be the installing prelate and chief concelbrant of the Mass. James Francis Cardinal McIntyre, Archbishop of Los Angeles, will preside at the , ceremonies. The San Diego diocese is the Suffragan See of the Los Angeles province. Other Concelebants Besides Archbishop Raimondi and Bishop Maher, other concelebrants will be Archbishop Joseph McGucken of San Francisco, Coadjutor Archbishop Timothy Manning of Los Angeles, Archbishop Francis J. Furey of San Antonio and Auxiliary Bishop John R. Quinn of San Diego. Others to concelebrate the Mass include members of the Diocesan Board of Consultors, a member of the Senate of Priest,!\ and Father Raymond Maher of San Francisco, broth- er of Bishop Maher. diocese also will mark the bicentenary of the first Mass in California. The Mass was of- fered in San Diego on July 2, 1769 by Father Junipero Serra, famed Apostle of California. As Ordinary in San Diego Bishop Maher will succeed Archbishop Furey who was installed in the San Antonio archdiocese August 6. Bishop Quinn is serving as ad- ministrator for the San Diego diocese. Bishop Sincl' "62 Bishop Maher has been the first Bishop of Santa Rosa since 1962 when the diocese was carved from the San Francisco archdiocese. He was appointed a bishop February 21, 1962 and consecrated April 5 in St. Mary's Cathedral, San Fran- cisco. A native of Mount Union, Iowa, born July 1, 1915, Bishop Maher was ordained to the priesthood December 18, 1943 for the San I-'rancisco ar- chdiocese. The course began September 10. The workshop, Education 121, is presented in cooperation with the St. Nicholas Training Center for the Montessori Method of Education in London. USD Education Course Still Open Registration for the Univer- sity of San Diego workshop in the Montes ori method and phi- losophy of education is open un- til Friday. The course began last Wednesday. The workshop is presented in cooperation with the St. ich- olas Training Center for the Montessori ~ethod of .ducation in_ London. "This independent, student- sponsored performance is being offered as an example of current and releva1,t drama in tne hopes of a better awareness of tl1e superb quality of Black-ori- ented writings today," said Paul Sammon, director. "The play, dealing with an acidic confrontation between the races, has garnered many dramatic awards and cita- tions." There will be no admission charge for the play.
