To Regain Win Stride Coach Mike Morrow's Uni- versity of San Diego base- ballers continue their stay on the road this weekend, meet- ing the powerful Bruins of UCLA tomorrow (Fri day) and the Launchers of Van- denberg Air Base Saturday. Both contests are scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. The Toreros are 4-1 for the season, having lost their first game Saturday at the hands of the Trojans of USC. Trojans Outhit Coach Rod Dedeaux's Tro• jan nine proved to be too much for the Toreros as they scored a 9-3 win, although outhit 10-11 by Morrow's squad. Tom Godd1¥ , ¼lrl on the mound for e Toreros , and worked five Innings. He was relieved in the sixth by freshman Pat Barry who twirled two Innings. Dennis Shields, a sophomore right- hander, finished the game for the Toreros. Senior flreballer Dick Wil- bur will get the starting nod at UCLA while Goddard will take the mound at Vanden• berg. Baumgarten leads the team in hitting with seven safeties In 15 at bats for a .467 aver- age. Solters, a freshman from Upland, follows with a .412 clip on seven hits in 17 attempts. Saints Graduate Baumgarten, a St. tine High graduate olso leads in doubles and en bases with three apiece, while Solters leads !n triples y•ith two. Goddard, in working a total of 15 innings, leads in strike• outs with 15 and has issued the most walks, six. San Diego, was the rec!,Pient this week of a Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship, It was announced by Very Rev. John P. Cadden, president of the College for Men. Johnson attended St. Pa- trick's School and was grad- uated from St. Augustine High School In 1959, receiv- ing the distinction of being first in his class in overall grade point average. At the University of San Diego, Johnson is completing a four-yeai, course in three years, having attended two summer sessions besides the regular school sessions. He has accumulated a 3.84 over- all grade point average (on a 1.0 scale) for the three years and has a 4.0 aver a g e in mathematics. T h e 21 • year • old student also lists a first place In the General Dynamics • Astronau• tics mathematics contest, in• dependent school division, as a high school student in 1959.
