Richard R . Daniels, episcopal sec- retary, the Rev. Thomas O'Toole, i pastor of St. Anne's church, San j Bernardino, and the Rev. Maxi- ,milian Gomez, pastor of Christ the King parish, San Bernardino. Present Flag The new church was blessed and dedicated by the Most Rev- erend Bishop on Sunday morning, J anuary 18, after an American flag had been presented to t he church by the American Legion post of Colton. :Members of the large group which attended thi' ceremonies were impressed by this demonstration of the freedom of religion in this country. After the blessing and dedica- tion of the church, the Most Rev- Bishop offered Mass and ad- dressed the congrega tion, congrat- ulating them on the beautiful ligurgical church and praising them for their efforts in making I its erection possible. The San Diego Ordinary also praised the) I pastor for his splendid efforts to- ward the construction of the church and the advancement of his parish. The architects are Barker and Ott, and the church .was built by I Contractor Bakker. \S. D. STATE COLLEGE PRESIDENT WELCOMES SAN DIEGO UNIVERSITY In an interview, quoted in the Aztec, San Diego Stat e college publication, Dr. ·waiter R. H epner, president, said San Diego has been in the cultural back ground long enough. "The proposed six million dollar Catholic University will be a factor in pushing San Diego t0 the front, both culturally and edu- cationally," he commented. There is no reason, Dr. H epner continued, why the J ews, Catholic3 and Protestants, who have alway~ cooperated in civic affairs should put an end to this cooperation. Bishop Buddy is known to be a great promoter, and all San Diego is looking for this latest venture to meet with success. "There are approximately 400 Catholics enrolled at State Col- lege at present," the College pr esi- dent said. "We have not attempted to figure the decrease to our en-, rollment." "But friendly competition is a healthy thing," he concluded, "an<.l a little of it, I'm sure, will not !hurt us."
