The Student Development Mentoring and Transcrip t Program assists new s tuden ts in adapting to the USD environment and making choices at the very s tart to maximize the ben– efits of the overa ll college experience. The program pairs up incoming freshman with s tu– dent mentors. Each mentor is matched vlith one to three mentees accord ing to simi lar ma– jor, interes ts, and/or hobbies. The mentoring and transcri pt program ha s a s trong history at USO. It was established early in the 1980's, and provides the kind of individual attention and support,that sets USO apart from other school s around the country. The program kicks off with a big "Meet Your Mentor Ice Cream Social" at the beginning of the Fa 11 semes ter. From there, mentors act as guides to the multitude of programs c1 nd ac tivi– ties available to USO s tudents. Mentors offer tips for s uccess both in and outside of academic classes.
