7 he Sigma Chi international fraternit)' was fouded in 1855at Miami University in Ohio. Since the founding,Sigma Chi has become one of coun– trieselite fratenuties with more than 225,000broth– ers. Sigma Chi has strived to instill in its members the higl1 ideals of friendship, justice, and learning. The fraternity also provides the brothers witha standard of integrity, good citizenship, academic excellence, honor, and ideals for a purposeful liv– ing. USD's Theta Lambda Chapter was chartered in May 1984. Since then, the fraternity has become an active and positive force its university commu– nity. Many of the chapter's active on-campus activities include leadersl1ip positiions in the AS, lFC, as well as providing many other leaders in university clubs and organizations. Philanthropy isan importantgoalof the brothersofTheta L,mbcla which liaswon USD's Giving Tree since its began. Theta Lambda also participates in raising money through fundraising for tne Children's Miracle Network, the Sigma Chi national philanthropy. The chapteralso ooastsmembership in theSurfriaer Foundation and participates in a recycling pro– gram to help the enviroment. Theta Lambda's active social role is evident in events such as Bark at the Moon, the Sweetheart Ball, as well as Derby Days and exchanges with various sororities. Theta Lambda'ssuccess is attributed soley to the strength of the brotherhood of Sigma Chi.
