Alcala Yearbook 1993-1994

Colophon a fitting tribute to each one of them. He did all with a genuine sensitivity--this is EuJin's greatest gift. He was always first to offer his assistance in any yearbook matter. Thank you, EuJee-Baby, for your unwaver– ing dedication. The successful production of this year– book would not have been possible with– out the innovation and stick-to-itiveness of a fabulous group of freshmen: Lauren Bradley, MichelleStuart, ColleenCrawford, Jill Jackson, Kristen Kikuchi, KristenWard, Sarah Coleman, and Dante Tosetti. They worked tirelessly and of their own initia– tive. Sarah and Dante deserve extra-spe– cial praise, for they were able to compose their 30-plus page sections on the com– puter, in record time, with very little train– ing. Some old friends proved themselves to be as reliable as ever: Tami Whitmyer, a fellow graduate from Patrick Henry High School, quickly of– fered her assistance. She finished the Greeks section before I could blink my eyes! Thanks, Tami, for your hard work and your friendship. Jonah Weinberg--as always, you bring that rare combination of wit, humor, and intelligence to your work on the Mini Mag. You never fail to make me laugh--not to mention you make a great sweet potato casserole. Viele Grusse, Liebling. Kavita Hemlani--you are always so knowledgeable, so supportive, and so gen– erous. Thank you for your continued dedi– cation, Indira Mahatma. People like you are one in a million. I don't know what I would have done without you. What would a yearbook be without pic– tures? We have only to thank Patrick DePriest and his staff for our superb pho– tography. Thank you to shutterbugs Theresa, Maria, Sonny, Sarah, Randy, Jonah, Kavita, and Kelly. I can't imagine getting by without the help of the Fabulous Four--my amazing work-studies. Ildy, Juli , Van, and Sue answered phone calls, made phone call , went on bookstore runs, typed, x roxed, took picture , and endured my madnes . You are amazing! Thank you to the 1993 Alcala Editorial t am of Raker and Ramirez. J nnif r,

I can't believe I have finally reached this point in time--when I am called to contemplate the last year's experience and air my feelings, frustrations, joys, and thanks in a strange beast called the colophon. I feel as though I'm giving my Academy Award acceptance speech, and have but 90 seconds to name all the people who have ever influenced and inspired me. I'm so afraid I will forget someone truly sig– nificant. I will do my best to acknowl– edge you all. There comes a time in the year-– make that many times--whenyou reach a manic state, frantically calling your yearbook company representative, saying, "Bob, I have a big problem!!!" This doesn't seem too unusual--except for that fact that my representative's name happens to be Ed. To Ed Schoen and Susan George of Jostens Publish– ing Company, thank you for your constant attention, assistance, and pa– tience. We debated over a theme for this annual. It is so difficult to find one unifying idea, and have its message carry throughout the pages of the book. Sowe decided on Lasting Impressions. It really is an all-encompassing theme. Our goal was to display all the faces and events that left an indelible mark in our minds--those memories we would want to carry for a lifetime. I also felt it was important to recog– nize people who often go unnoticed-– those people of rare character, who choose to spend much of their time in service to others. We established what I hope will be a new tradition in this publication. In the Senior Spotlight, we sought to do just what the title suggests--spotlight seniors who, in their own unique ways, have made the world a better place just by being in it. Time and space only allowed the rec– ognition of six pecial individuals. However, I nominate a eventh who is just as deserving of such praise--EuJin Hwang. EuJin not only interviewed the hon– orees and took their pictures for publi– cation, but also masterfully composed

thank you for recommending me for this position and for lending your ex– pert advice and support. George, my publicist, thank you for your diligence in advertising. The picture on the foot– ball field was the best ever thanks to you. JasonMattoxandPepsi arain. Your presence in the office, in addition to all of your hard work, never failed to raise my spirits. Joel Gonzales--you wanted it, so here it is! Your name in a colophon!! All kidding aside, your validation of my work meant so much to me. Thank you for just being my friend. Donna Reed again acted as advisor to this production. Your constant praise and positive reinforcement kept me going. You were my clarity of thought and my cheerleader.Thank you! Finally, I come to the people without whom I may not have made it through the year alive: Kelly Morrison and my dear family. Kelly, I know this year was as trying for you at times as it was for me. We really did have our share of trials and tribulations!!!! But you handled every new crisis with a maturity and sensibil– ity beyond your years. You are a fine graphic artist--your work on the Cur– rent Events section is proof of that!! You never rejected a request for help, never failed to complete any task, and greeted each day with energy and en– thusiasm. You really came through for me when I needed you. For that, I will be forever in your debt. Tomy Granny,Mommy, and brother John--thank you for standing by me in this endeavor. I realize you must have thought me mad to attempt this, but you never were anything but support– ive. Your constant love, encouragement, and praise kept me going. I love you. Thi 288-page Alcala, volume 39, printed on 100-pound litho glos paper, with an 8-page 80-pound grey tock tip– in, was a labor of love. Its creation, by a hard-working, dedicat d staff, was an xp rience I will carry with m always. Kalie Wilson Edilor-in-Chief
