USD Grand Prix

The Starting Line for the West Coast Conference Circuit

The sixth annual USD Grand Prix, the first race of the West Coast Conference circuit, was headed by Jenn Hardin and her assistant Lauren Riaski. For two exhilarating days, February sixth and seventh, professional, amateur, and col– legiate competitors participated in 20 thrilling races. A variety of sponsors, along with A.S., helped to fund the weekend event, providing $5,000 in cash and prizes. Some of the sponsors were Hinckley Schmitt, Speed Play, Bikes By the Bay, Bicycle Network, European Cycles,

Gatorz, and Schimano. USD's cycling team was divided into two brackets for the race. Seniors Joe Nadeau and Nathan Carr, Cycling Club president, were in one bracket. Chris Juracka, Mike Livingston, Shawn Uebeelhor, and Brett Hanna partici– pated in another bracket. While travelling and training on their own, the university paid for their entrance fees for the races. The cycling team went on to race at CSU Fullerton, Cal. Poly. Pomona, UCSD, and UCLA after the USD Grand Prix.
