Greek Life: An Inside Look

T he Interfraternity Council was founded in 1983 "to promote the best interest of the University, to assist and strengthen fraternities individ– ually and collectively, to provide a medi– um for self government and the regulation of fraternity affairs, to further the devel– opment and expansion of fraternity life on campus, to act as a liaison between frater– nities and the University administration, to offer a common meeting ground for all fraternities an to foster ... the Greek con– cept of brotherhood among the fraterni – ties and the University . . . student com– munity as a whole." IFC worked diligently to achieve these goals. All four fraternities worked together for the betterment of the

Greek system in planning such activities as Rush, Greek Week, Fall Fraternity BBQ, and the Spring Awards Ceremony. IFC was also involved in community ser· vice through involvement in Special Olympics, ~inda Vista Boys' and Girls' Club, I Love A Clean San Diego, as well as involvement in AS Community Service. IFC is proud to be composed of a diverse group of USD students ranging from all walks of campus like and from different cultural and racial backgrounds. The fra· ternal brotherhoods thrive on the unique· ness of the individual and do not produce carbon Copies of the "typical fraternity man"!

T he Panhellenic Association was founded to develop and maintain sorority life and interfraternity re– lations. The Panhellenic Association pro– motes superior scholarship, cooperates with member fraternities and the Univer– sity administration and providing a forum for the goals and ideals of members in campus and personal life. The Association respects the sovereignty, rights and privi– leges of its members.
