ALCAL'A STAFF Last year, the Yearbook Staff

produced one of the most outstanding yearbooks ever at USD. Suddenly, the Alcala Yearbook was "the latest thing" on campus; students, professors and administrators fled to the Yearbook office window pleading for an extra copy. But, what people failed to realize, or have the opportunity to appreciate, was the time and effort exerted in producing a yearbook. With the success of last year's book in mind, this year's staff was placed under pressure: it had to either reproduce or improve upon the qualities of last year's book. Henry Zahner was the newly elected Editor; though he had a great deal of experience with layouts, he hadn't realized that the office would become his home away from home. Typical of every year, student interest rapidly dwindled to six members. Dedication and prayer became the staff's last resort as deadlines were extended and friendships were tried. Procrastination was often the case of Claire Carpenter, the Copy Editor and Staff. Suddenly, she found herself writing a neglected sports article, not knowing where to begin . Tom Korson was a great help; he helped with the majority of the Sports section. Kathy Chatigny worked alongside of Henry on the layouts. Her endurance was great, but she had difficulty explaining her drowsiness in class. Our photographers, Rich Wilrodt, Allen Greenspan and Janet Heath kept the lights out will the late hours of the night in the darkroom, waiting for things to develope. Beth Slater, Moira Finnerty and Lisa Sill helped the staff meet its financial obligations by selling ads to the community. But it was Sue Shook who won the all– around for her work with layouts, typing and positioning and labelling pictures.
