Figure 7 Boxplot of Nutrient Distributions in Individual Foods Data
To further analyze nutritional patterns, macronutrient percentages of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins were calculated as proportions of total calories using standard nutritional conversion factors. The top 10 food categories were then analyzed to observe their macronutrient composition. Figure 8 shows the caloric contributions of macronutrients within these categories. For example, “breads & buns” had a higher proportion of carbohydrates, while categories like “cheese” and “vegetable & cooking oils” were dominated by fats. This analysis provides essential insights for tailoring food recommendations based on macronutrient profiles, particularly for diabetic individuals.
