The 1983 men's tennis team opened their season faced with many challenges, the most important being the loss of the t p two players from last year.Yet returning for the Toreros were s niors TyeFerdinandson, Brian Turner, Jay Massart, andPat Rea. JuniorKevin Young was also a returnee. Newcomers to the team included Jim McNamee, Alejandro Ramos, DougBradley and Attila Betyar. Coach Ed Collins statedthat to duplicate the success from last year the teamwould have to improvethe results oftheir lower positions andbe tougher in doubles court.Fortu­ nately this year's team was able to meet the challenge. Wit h competitors such as UCLA, Pepperdine, USC. Stanford, Cal State, Arizona State, BYU, South Carolina, Tulsa, Minnesota, and Harvard the Torerosmore than proved their assertionof being an outstanding team. TheToreros partook in the CorpusChristi Intercollegiate, the Adidas/MGM Grand Intercollegiate, the San Diego Intercollegiate, and the WCAC champion­ ships, ateam to be reckoned with that's the USD men's tennis team.
